Resumo: Esta tese procura mostrar que o inferno, ao contrário do que se pensa, não desapareceu; ele continua sendo representado por roteiristas, diretores de cinema, desenhistas de quadrinhos e game designers. Sua representação mudou. O inferno deixou de ser um lugar para onde se vai e passou a ser aquele onde se está. Ele não é mais "lá". É aqui! E carrega toda a carga simbólica do "estar aqui". Deste modo, não é um fogo constante que o alimenta, mas sim, os desastres do mundo moderno. Desordem genética, poluição, sujeira e escuridão, fazem parte das alegorias do inferno de hoje. Para demonstrar como o inferno tem sido reconstruído por novos atores e autores, foi usado Blade Runner, um filme de Ridley Scott, de 1982. Nesta tese, procurou-se demonstrar que os intérpretes da atualidade não abandonaram a noção de inferno, mas a atualizaram e a trouxeram para os nossos dias, nos inserindo num inferno realístico, em contraposição àquele existente como possibilidade temida no pós-morte. Buscou-se demonstrar através das representações na arte, cinema e literatura, desde o Inferno de Dante Alighieri até o Blade Runner de Ridley Scott, que nós já vivemos no inferno, que ele é mais terrível do que aquele imaginado por Dante e que os suplícios dantescos passaram a ter significados na realidade contemporânea Ver menos

The New Topographies of hell: From Dante to Blade Runner This thesis seeks to show that hell, contrary to popular belief, not disappeared; he is still represented by writers, film directors, comic book designers and game designers.
