Resumo: Este projeto se dedicou a analisar a obra 1984 de George Orwell. Apesar de reconhecer os diversos vieses de abordagem da obra, a pesquisa se focou em uma análise das representações do totalitarismo dentro do livro de Orwell. Essa análise se situou de modo a inicialmente apresentar o universo literário e o enredo criado pelo autor, para depois delinear as vertentes centrais da representação do totalitarismo na obra e concluir a análise com uma reflexão sobre a representação da linguagem totalitarista dentro daquele universo. Para isso foram necessárias leituras cuidadosas do livro analisado, seleção do recorte temático, leitura e fichamento de bibliografia relacionada tanto à obra de George Orwell quanto ao totalitarismo e a linguagem totalitária, sistematização e articulação de reflexões sobre os temas em questão e finalmente redação do texto do trabalho. Como resultado principal, a pesquisa não só evidenciou a consistência da representação do totalitarismo em 1984, mas também mostrou como tal obra ainda é fonte eficaz de reflexões relevantes sobre os conceitos de poder, humanidade e linguagem para a sociedade atual, que ainda sente o impacto e a força da metáfora pessimista criada pelo autor da obra em questão Ver menos

Abstract: This project analyses the book 1984 by George Orwell. Although it is known that there are many possible approaches for an analysis like this, our research focused on understanding the representations of totalitarianism inside Orwell¿s book. This analysis is composed by an initial presentation of the literary universe and plot created by the author, followed by a general portrait of the representations of totalitarianism and it is concluded with a discussion about the representations of the totalitarian language inside that literary universe. To that end, the book under review was carefully read, a thematic focus was chosen, a bibliography related to both George Orwell¿s book and totalitarianism and totalitarian language was read and properly studied, reflections about the themes in focus were organized systematically and finally a structured analysis was written. As a main result, this research not only proved the consistency of the representations of totalitarianism in 1984, but also showed itself as an effective source of relevant reflections on the concepts of power, humanity and language for today's society, which still feels the impact and power of the pessimistic metaphor created by the author of the book in question Ver menos
