Abstract: Since the supply of glycerol became independent of its demand in the last decade, research on electrocatalysis of glycerol and ways of its valorization has grown markedly. Highlighting the variables related to the reaction of electrocatalytic conversion of glycerol into high value-added compounds as well as the challenges present in the whole electrochemical process, in this small review we summarize the current knowledge with a particular emphasis on the results obtained of glycerol electrooxidation (GEO) on noble metal electrodes, namely Au, Pt, Pd and Ag. The reader will find information about the reaction mechanism and the main products yielded during a reaction, focusing in describing the role of the nature of the catalyst and also providing examples that applied the observations associated with selectivity and/or reactivity of GEO process
