Abstract: Modern Europe (17th-19th centuries) developed a notion of the individual that supported gnoseology, ethics and political philosophy. In the opening of China to European modernity, in the period of Deng Xiaoping (1978-1992), that notion of the individual was incorporated, however, with Chinese characteristics. The purpose of this thesis is to delimit the notion of modern individual incorporated by China through hermeneutics of the interrelational network theory. To achieve this objective, we will follow the following steps: 1. We will present the hermeneutics of the interrelational network theory; 2. We will present the ontologization of the logical principles that define identity and individuality in the West; 3. We will expose the philosophical foundations of N?g?rjuna and Laozi in relation to the individual and of F?zàng in relation to the network; 4. We will present Zh?x? 's neoconfucionism to support the notion of the individual in China before the opening; 5. We will present Deng Xiaoping's theory, with regard to the individual, as the foundation of the Tao of Chinese modernity. Finally, we will conclude that Chinese modernity rescues the notion of a modern European individual in the face of three fundamental Eastern elements, namely, (1) emptiness of substance or emptiness of substance, (2) flow of reality (Tao) and (3) network. In addition to including the Marxist notion of productivity
