Resumo: O objetivo deste trabalho é fazer uma análise da representação do corpo em Madame Edwarda (1941), obra literária de Georges Bataille (1892-1962). Bataille deixou uma obra extensa, concentrando diversas áreas do pensamento, e a literatura exerce um papel central para as suas elaborações filosóficas. Considerado um autor maldito em seu tempo, sua produção literária, em geral, compõe uma beleza convulsiva e perturbadora, assimilando a morte, a violência e a degradação física e psíquica. Bataille acredita que o tumulto é um elemento fundamental da vida e, portanto, também da arte. Com isso em mente, esse trabalho se ocupa do texto considerado o mais tumultuoso entre suas obras literárias, Madame Edwarda. Entrelaçando filosofia e literatura, a leitura minuciosa da obra busca compreendê-la através do próprio Bataille, dando especial destaque às representações do corpo e de que maneiras ele busca dissolver os limites corporais através do erotismo. Abstract: The purpose of this work is to analyze the representations of the body in Madame Edwarda (1941), written by Georges Bataille (1892-1962). Bataille left an extensive work, focusing on several areas of thought, and his literature plays a central role in his philosophical elaborations. Named an accursed author in his time, his literary writings, in general, compose a convulsive and disturbing beauty, assimilating death, violence and physical and psychic degradation. Bataille believes that disturbance is a fundamental part of life, and therefore, of art as well. With this in mind, this research focuses on the text that is considered to be the most disturbing among his literary writings, Madame Edwarda. Through a close reading of the work, we hope to understand it on Bataille’s own terms, intertwining philosophy and literature, and with a special emphasis on his representations of the human body and in which ways he seeks to dissolve the bodily limits through eroticism.
