Resumo: Este trabalho propõe uma análise da relação autor-tradutor entre os poetas Michael O¿Loughlin e Mikelis Norgelis. Diferentes poetas, que, no entanto, revelam ser a mesma pessoa. Norgelis nada mais é que um outro nome de O¿Loughlin, poeta irlandês que, ao retornar à sua Irlanda após quase vinte anos no exterior, encontra uma outra voz para sua escrita. A análise baseia-se no livro In This Life, 2011, no qual O¿Loughlin apresenta doze poemas de sua autoria e oito poemas cuja autoria atribui a Mikelis Norgelis. Quem é, afinal, o letão Norgelis? Um nom de plume? Um heterônimo? Ou, simplesmente, uma tradução do nome próprio do poeta do inglês Michael O¿Loughlin para o letão Mikelis Norgelis? Uma máscara do autor irlandês? Um tipo de ortônimo? Para tentar responder a essas e outras perguntas, trazemos nossas traduções desses poemas e um estudo crítico da linguagem de cada poeta. A hipótese inicial é a de que Norgelis não passa da tradução de O¿Loughlin. Michael é Mikelis, ambos viveram como imigrantes e o irlandês autoexilado encontra esse imigrante letão após seu retorno à terra natal. Em nosso projeto tradutório, a tradução precisa se fazer em uma espécie de trajeto migratório, uma tradução que se exila entre diferentes dicções de realidades, lidando com relações assimétricas de poder entre vozes e culturas. Abstract: This paper is an analysis of the research between the poets Michael O'Loughlin and Mikelis Norgelis. Different poets who, however, come to reveal they are the same person. Norgelis is but another name of O¿Loughlin, Irish poet who, when returning to his homeland after twenty years abroad, finds a new voice for his writing. This analysis is based on the book In this life, 2001, in which O¿Loughlin presents twelve poems signed by him and eight signed, supposedly, by Mikelis Norgelis. But who is, after all, the Latvian Norgelis? Is he a nom de plume? A heteronym? Or, perhaps, simply a translation of the poet¿s own name, Michael O¿Loughlin, to Latvian, Mikelis Norgelis? Is he a mask of the Irish author? Some kind of orthonym? To try and answer these and other questions, we present our translations of these poems and a critical study of each poet¿s language. The initial hypothesis is that Norgelis is but a translation of O¿Loughlin. Michael is Mikelis, and both lived as immigrants. The Irishman, having lived in self-exile, meets this Latvian immigrant upon his return to Ireland. In our translation project, the translation needs to take a sort of migratory path, a translation that exiles itself between different realities, dealing with asymmetrical power relations between voices and cultures.
