Abstract: This work aims to search for Judgement occurrences in online journalistic texts regarding the episode of racism suffered by the Brazilian soccer player Daniel Alves, at the time, member of the Catalan team Barcelona, on April 27, 2014. The analysis is supported by the Systemic-Functional Linguistics (HALLIDAY; MATTHIESSEN, 2014), especially by the Appraisal Theory (MARTIN; WHITE, 2005), from which I understand Judgment as a semantic region from the subsystem of Attitude. I hypothesize that these Judgments, even though present in supposedly neutral texts (MARTIN; WHITE, 2005), are reported by specific words and expressions that modify what is at stake in the relationship between the produced text and its reader (WHITE, 2003), leading him to think, in one way or another, about what was read. According to White (2003, p. 8), these clues are "triggered by superficially neutral, ideational meanings which nevertheless have the capacity in the culture to evoke judgemental responses (depending upon the reader's social/cultural/ideological reader position)". This work is also grounded on the racial relations that are present in soccer (MANERA; CARVALHO, 2017; HELAL; GORDON JR., 1999) and in the media (VAN DJIK, 2005), which ensure that "Brazilians imagine themselves in a racial democracy" (GUIMARÃES, 1995, p. 43), taking into account the particular characteristics of sports journalism (LAGE, 2001). The results show that the language that is being utilized by the media discourse is working to reinforce some patterns of representation about the racism in football. The racism is brought by the press as something that exists, but its condition as something criminal or its consequences are not reinforced. With the results of this research, I believe that there is a framework for a methodology analysis of sociological aspects of sport through language that is linked to it
