|Title:||Effect Of Dietary Lipids On The Fatty Acid Composition Of Mammary Mitochondria Of Female Rat Treated With 7,12-dimethylbenz(a)anthracene|
|Abstract:||A single dose of 20 mg of 7,12-dimethylbenz(a)anthracene (DMBA) was injected intraperitoneally in 50-60-day-old female rats. The rats were fed an n-6 polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA)-rich diet A or an n-3 PUFA-rich diet B, for 30 or 63 days, respectively. The mammary mitochondrial FA methyl esthers were analyzed. These experimental conditions corresponded to the earlier events of the DMBA action. The main alteration caused by DMBA was on the content of arachidonic acid, an n-6 PUFA and precursor of eicosanoid compounds. The DMBA induced a significant increase in arachidonic acid content after 30 and 63 days of treatment in comparison to the respective controls in both dietary groups (p < 0.01 in all cases). The content of arachidonic acid of controls and DMBA-treated rats fed diet A was significantly higher than the ones fed diet B for 30 and 63 days (p < 0.01 in all cases). However, these and other observated alterations were probably due to dietary manipulations.|
