Title: Thermochemistry Of Dichlorobis (triethylphosphine Oxide)-zinc(ii), -cadmium(ii) And -mercury(ii), Dichloro (triethylphosphine Oxide)-mercury(ii) And Dichlorobis(tribenzylphosphine Oxide) -zinc(ii)

Abstract: Enthalpies of solution of M9TEPO)2Cl2 (MZn, Cd, Hg and TEPO = triethylphosphine oxide), Hg(TEPO)Cl2 and Zn(TBPO)2Cl2(TBPO = tribenzylphosphine oxide) in acetone, dioxan, methanol or ethanol have been measured calorimetrically. Combination with the enthalpies of solution of metal chlorides and ligands in the same solvents at 298.15 K yielded the following values for ΔHR {Plimsoll sign}/kJ mol-1: Zn(TEPO)2Cl2, -(75.07±0.7); Cd(TEPO)2Cl2, -(31.75±0.1); Hg(TEPO)2Cl2, -(28.61±0.1); Hg(TEPO)Cl2, -(22.29±0.1) and Zn(TBPO)2Cl2, -(33.60)±1.4). From ΔHR {Plimsoll sign}, ΔHf {Plimsoll sign} (MCl2, s) and ΔHf {Plimsoll sign} (ligands, s), the following enthalpies of formation were estimated for the same sequence of adducts, ΔHf {Plimsoll sign} (s, 298.15 K): -1815, -1747, -1577, -908 and -881. The estimated standard enthalpies of the metal-oxygen bonds are correlated with the variation of the PO stretching frequency and other thermochemical data. © 1981.
