|Title:||A Third World View Of The Photovoltaic Market|
|Abstract:||In this paper we consider several important aspects related to photovoltaic (PV) market evaluation. The relationship between energy and development is discussed. The difference between energy demand and energy requirements is established, the fulfillment of either resulting in PV markets different by orders of magnitude. Finally, we present the main conclusions of a recent study of the potential PV market in the rural areas of northeast Brazil. The study clarifies the competitiveness of other forms of energy supply (diesel and electrical grid extensions) in terms of cost, demand, population density, and length of grid extension. © 1986.|
