|Title:||Radiolysis Of Potassium Chromate. Effect Of Oxygen On Radiolytic Production Of 51cr(iii) From K2 51cro4|
|Abstract:||The radiolytic yield of 51Cr(III) from K2 51CrO4 irradiated in a 60Co field has been determined as a function of temperature of irradiation, of covering gas atmosphere and of sample treatment prior to irradiation. These yields are highest at intermediate temperatures (0°>20°> - 78°>100°C) and in the absence of oxygen (N2>vacuum>air>O2). Pre-heating of the samples under the corresponding atmospheres for 4 h at 350°C emphasizes these differences. The results are consistent with a model which includes the radiolytic production of a Cr(III)-precursor, with the observed yield of 51Cr(III) modified by a radiation annealing process which is more effective in the presence of an oxygen atmosphere and at higher irradiation temperatures. © 1978.|
