Abstract: Diazepam and lorazepam were compared as anesthetic premedicants regarding their amnestic effect, sedative effect and tolerability. 60 female patients were admitted to the study and randomly allocated into two groups of 30. Several types of gynecological surgery were performed and peridural blockade was the technique used for anesthesia. The test drug was administered by a person not involved in the patients' evaluation, via oral route the night before surgery and intravenously 30 minutes before anesthesia. The amnestic effect was significantly higher with the injectable lorazepam.
