Title: Simulation Of Miscible Displacement In A Five-spot Grid

Abstract: Discretization schemes for the convective-diffusive transport equation are comparatively applied to the problem of miscible displacement of a contaminant in a flow within a porous media displaying a five-spot geometry, which is relevant for petroleum exploitation. The problem admist two distinct domain definitions such that numerical grids form an angle of 45 angles between themselves. Important differences between the profiles obtained with some schemes are usually related with the numerical diffusion angular effect. However, it is shown that the performances of the Allen and Southwell scheme and a skew-exponential scheme designed to prevent the angular effect are very much alike.
