Abstract: The purpose of this paper was to investigate whether women with partial epilepsies show more anxiety as state and trait during the premenstrual period in relation to other periods of the month. We investigated 20 women with partial epilepsies and a 20 women control group using the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (Spielberger, Gorsuch e Luschene, 1970). The presence of the anxiety-state measured in pre and post menstrual periods didn't show any difference between the two groups. Anxiety appeared independently of the menstrual cycle phases. Nevertheless, we have found the anxiety-trait in some patients with epilepsy, suggesting anxiety could be a personality trait.
