Abstract: This work deals with the numerical simulation of the two-phase flow distribution inside a common header placed between two passes of a shell-and-tube heat exchanger. The Numerical results have been obtained from a computer code based on the two-dimensional two-fluid model. The interfacial momentum transfer was modeled as a function of the flow patterns observed in the heat exchanger common header. The influence of the total mass flow rate and the mixture quality (the inlet flow conditions) on the phase distributions at the common header outlet were investigated. The numerical simulations of the two-phase flow distribution inside the common header were compared qualitatively with other numerical and experimental results, showing the capability of the proposed model.
