Abstract: Reheat crackings occur, in general, in the heat affected zone of welded joints of high strength low alloy structural steel during post welding stress relief heat treatment (PWHT). The modified implant test showed to be an effective form of evaluating susceptibility to Reheat Cracking. The present work focus on the design and construction of a modified implant test equipment. The equipment is used to test the reheat cracking susceptibility of a high strength low alloy steel. The results showed that the proposed equipment presents good reliability. The tested steel is highly susceptible to reheat cracking.
