|Title:||The E-evolutionary Optical Network|
|Abstract:||The evolution of optical communications since its inception in 1970 until our days is briefly reviewed. The emergence of the optical network is explained as a natural corollary of the pervasiveness of optical transmission and the advent of optical amplifiers and WDM. Current evolution is led by the emergence of the IP network as the prevailing client of the WDM layer.|
