|Abstract:||Aim: To report four cases of intra-oral pleomorphic adenoma in patients under 18 years of age and review the literature. Methods: Intra-oral salivary gland tumors were reviewed in two Brazilian institutions and four cases of pleomorphic adenoma in patients under 18 years of age were found. Clinical data were obtained from the medical records and paraffin-embedded tissues were sectioned for PCNA and p53 immunohistochemical analysis. Three patients were females (18, 18, and 17 years old) and one male (11 years old); in two cases the tumor affected the palate, in one the upper lip and in one the tongue. Results: All four patients were treated surgically and after long follow-up periods (9, 23, 25 and 39 months) no recurrences were observed. Tumor cells were weakly positive for PCNA and negative for p53. Conclusions: In young patients pleomorphic adenoma, although uncommon, should be considered in the differential diagnosis of oral submucosal nodules. Biological behavior of PA in youngsters seems to be similar to PA in adults, with very low recurrence rate after surgical resection.|
