Title: Evaluation Of Games And Toys With Dentistry Themes Available In The National Market [avaliação Dos Jogos E Brinquedos Com Temas Odontológicos Disponibilizados No Mercado Nacional]

Abstract: Objective: To evaluate the availability of games and toys in the national market related to dentistry themes. Method: It was realized an active search for national toys games related to dentistry in three web places, in other words, websites of search in general, websites of companies of toys and websites of dentistry companies of toys and gifts. The found products were classified according to the International Classification of the Toys. Results: It was found a total of 159 products; however, some of these were not more available in the market. Most of the products produced and commercialized with dentistry themes was originating from companies of the own branch. The adhesives were the more frequently found products found, followed by puppets and plush animals with mouths of macro models. While the games and toys produced by dentistry companies takes value to the prevention and the role of promotion health of the dentists, the same tendency was not observed by the products commercialized in general by the companies of games and toys, which elaborate their products turned to the invasive and painful side of the profession, stimulating a negative image of the dentistry. Most of the products were classified, according to the criteria of ICCP, as suitable for the child's affective development. Conclusion: A reasonable number of products containing dentistry themes were found and most of them were produced by dentistry companies. However, because the companies of games and toys in general had a larger insertion in the infantile market, it is important to stimulate a dialogue between this companies and the dentistry area for their products promote a positive image of the profession and to incentive the adoption of healthy habits.
