Abstract: The mechanisms involved in astigmatism soft contact lenses stabilization represent an important factor in contact lenses fitting process and long term wear ing. Despite the recent advances related mainly to materials, specially with the introduction of silicone hydrogel lenses, during nearly thirty years no new relevant technology was presented related to stabilization designs, prevailing the prism ballast and dual thin zones ones. Recently we saw the introduction in Brazil of a new soft contact lens with a design named "accelerated stabilization design". This article proposes a review around this topic and a comparative analysis of available data concerning this new technology. © Copyright Moreira Jr. Editors.
