Title: Transient Methodology For Cuttings Transport - A Case Study [metodologia Transiente Para O Transporte De Cascalho - Um Estudo De Caso]

Abstract: Among the many operational tecniques related to well drilling, hole cleaning is considered a very important one. An occasional failure in the process may cause serious problems, such as a significant increase in the annular pressure, high drag, stuck pipe and eventually, the loss of the well itself. Numerical simulation techniques have been used to analyze the transport of solids inside the well during drilling operations. In most cases, these studies are done for a steady-state flow condition. Considering the unsteady nature of the process, transient analysis should provide more accurate and detailed information on the solids and liquid flow behaviors inside the pipeline. This study shows the results for the transport of solids in deviated wells, during a drilling operation, under an unsteady-state condition. This study used a software developed in recent years by the Group of Technology and Engineering in Petroleum, GTEP/CIV/PUC-Rio, in partnership with Petrobras.
