Eleuterio Jr. J.
Da Silva L.V.
|Abstract:||Introduction: In recent years, the concepts of sexually transmitted diseases (STD) have changed. The idea that STD affect just he only promiscuous people, no longer applies. In nowadays, patients with STDs are people of normal daily life, and must not have multiple sexual partners. Moreover, the clinical symptoms of classic and STD have been overridden by asymptomatic infections, such as Chlamydial infection. Objective: To update the theme and highlight important diagnostic and therapeutic aspects. Methods: The authors emphasize the importance of early diagnosis and appropriate treatment, not only to stop the infection itself, but also prevent complications, and interrupt the epidemiological chain. Results and conclusions: Considering the importance and the problems of Chlamydial infection, screening for C. trachomatis in populations at risk (pregnant women, adolescents, persons with other STDs) and preceding gynecologic surgeries should be implemented in the routine of all departments concerned to prevent this disease and especially to avoid their problems. © Copyright Moreira Jr. Editora.|
