|Abstract:||Objective: To know the profile of the women who submit to mammography in the public health system in state of Acre. Methods: It is a transverse and observacional study with an institutional basis. It was studied mammograms forms and medical reports from women that submit to mammographys in the public health system in the state of Acre, symtomatics or not, from January, 2004 to January, 2008, independently of age. Results: The 7.982 valid mammographys had madden by 6000 different women, focusing that in the period of considered study 4.920 women (82%) had madden the exam only one time. The majority was presented between the 50 and 69 years (49.5%), and with regard to the origin, the great majority of the women is of the capital (80.6%); 59,4% were in menopause; 8% were in hormone- replacement therapy, of which 22% had been submitted to the mammographic exam for the first time; 1,7% had history of exposure to the radiotherapy; 7,7% had history of breast disease submitted to surgery; 9,2% had family history of breast cancer. Conclusion: The multiple conditions and notes for improvement of the control of breast cancer are in our possibilities and must be stimulated through strategies as: practical doctor guiding beginning of the mammographic, its repetition in opportune age and interval; accessibility facilitated to the ways of secondary prevention, increasing the covering with the installed capacity already; education and/or information of the population; approach of the quality of the services and the human resources, among others. © Copyright Moreira Jr. Editora.
