|Title:||Acupuncture Could Modify Muscle Activity In Bruxism [la Acupuntura Puede Alterar Los Patrones Musculares Del Bruxismo]|
|Author:||De La Torre Vera R.M.|
|Abstract:||Objectives: The objectives of this study were to evaluate the effect of acupuncture using tongue diagnostic with five element in the voluntary with myofascial pain symptoms and tooth clenching (bruxism). In the evaluation of treatment was using of visual analog scale and electromyography (EMG), in the EMG evaluating two characters: a) the muscle activity (RMS, root mean square), and b) muscular symmetry. Material and methods: Were selected four female volunteers class I Angle, between 25 and 30 years old. The evaluations were evaluating in two periods: pre-treatment (T0) and post-treatment, T1: immediately after treatment and T2, T3 and T4 in three consecutive days respectively. The statistical analysis was performed using test T Student, with 5% significance (BioEstat 3.0). Results: The pain improved in all periods, in the EMG, the RMS decrease signal in TI, TD, MI, MD, TRI and TRD that stayed after 72 h. The muscular symmetry was better for TD and TI muscles. Conclusion: Acupuncture using the tongue diagnostic can relieve pain and muscle activity, so further studies of larger populations are needed.|
