|Abstract:||This paper presents the compositional process and poetic principles implied in my composition Litania, for String Quartet. This was written in homage to the Brazilian composer José Antonio de Almeida Prado, to the Brazilian "tourné" of The Arditti String Quartet in 2011. The compositional process involved in Litania is presented as following steps of a line astray, line crossings, under the main notion of "refrain" as proposed by Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari. Based on this philosophical notion I tried to demonstrate how it is possible a compositional process far from a classical paradigm, which emphasize notions as material homogeneity, formal antecedence, and linear and derivative listening. This article presents the compositional plane of Litania as a demonstration of a potential frame to a compositional way without having the formal coherence as a main guide. The aphorismatic paper structure follows the compositional process, genesis and poetics. Those aphorisms are both directly and non-directly related, sometimes in a free counterpoint.|
