|Abstract:||The increase in competition has implicated several production chains in greater demands in terms of production scale and quality of the raw material, which has been reflected in the case of milk production, the need for adoption of new technologies and production practices. In this context, many producers have been carried give up the activity, because of the lack of resources to invest. However, you can still find family farmers in some regions with competitive ability, such as milk producers of family farming in the region of Passo Fundo (RS). Keeping this in view, this paper investigates how the technological environment in the region has contributed to the competitiveness of these farmers. The results indicate that the adoption of technology has been critical to the achievement of competitiveness and that this adoption is strongly linked to public policy, the strength of family farming in the region among others.|
