Title: Situating Idtv In Brazil: A Study On Requirement Informed By Cultural Valuation

Abstract: Interactive Digital Television (iDTV) can be considered a technology with potential to face economic, social and geographical difficulties and of knowledge access in Brazil. Nevertheless, its introduction in this society tends to focus on its technological aspects at the expense of a broader socio-situated view. This paper, presents an analysis of cultural valuation of iDTV current scenario in Brazil, to encompass from the technical to the social perspectives. This analysis, based on Organizational Semiotics artefacts, aims at informing requirements and issues regarding the design of iDTV applications and illustrates the main challenges to constitute a culture mediated by this new instrument of technology.
