|Abstract:||This work provides detailed information of outcrop gamma-ray logging from the Lower Toarcian marly-limestone series of the Lusitanian Basin (Portugal). The study included total and spectral gamma-ray measurements in outcrop and laboratory and whole-rock mineralogical characterization by X-ray diffraction, carried out in three different sectors of the Lusitanian Basin (Alcabideque, Rabaçal and Peniche) and involving the base of the S. Gião and Cabo Carvoeiro formations. We emphasize the different correlations between the Th and K and the detrital fractions from both units suggesting the existence of two sediment supply sources for the S. Gião and Cabo Carvoeiro formations and independent depositional environments between Rabaçal/Alcabideque and Peniche regions. This study highlights the importance of the gammaray techniques as an important correlation tool in basin scale analysis and in palaeoclimatic interpretations. © 2013 LNEG - Laboratório Nacional de Geologia e Energia IP.|
