|Title:||A Te Deum In Desterro In The 19th Century [um Te Deum Em Desterro No Século Xix]|
|Abstract:||In the Francisco Curt Lange collection in Inconfidência Museum in Ouro Preto, there is a copy of a Te Deum by João Francisco de Souza Coutinho, which is assumed to have been composed in Vila de Nossa Senhora do Desterro, nowadays called Florianópolis, mid-nineteenth century, probably by occasion of Emperor D. Pedro II's visit to the island. Aside from consisting of one of the rare examples of musical material preserved of Desterro of this time, above all due to its more ellaborate instrumental and vocal formation, that composition reflects some of the city's social aspects of that time, such as economic growth and its gradual demilitarization.|
