|Title:||EFFECTS OF X-RAYS UPON THE ENZYME GLUCOSE-6-PHOSPHATE-DEHYDROGENASE (G6PD) IN THE CRYSTALLINE LENS OF RATS|
|Abstract:||The effects of x-rays upon the enzyme G6PD were investigated in the crystalline lens of Wistar rats, employing the analytical method of NADP + reduction to determine the activity of G6PD, and electrophoresis in polyacrylamide gel for the analysis of G6PD isoenzymes. Control and experimental animals which received 10.26R in each eye, were killed 6, 12, 24, 48 and 96 hrs after the irradiation. Irradiated rats, later 48 hrs, presented a 28,45 % decreased of G6PD activity, statistically significant at 5 % level. During the other periods no significant variations occurred in comparison with controls. During the period of 48 hrs four isoenzymes of G6PD were detected in the control crystalline lens and only two from the irradiated rats.|
