Title: Self-stabilized holographic recording in reduced and oxidized lithium niobate crystals

Abstract: We investigate the behavior of non-stabilized and self-stabilized holographic recording kinetics in reduced and oxidized Fe-doped lithium niobate crystals. We show that self-stabilization modifies the recording process, always leads to 100% diffraction efficiency gratings for widely varying experimental conditions and any degree of oxidation and produces, in general, running holograms. The main features of self-stabilized recording are explained using the conventional dynamic coupled wave theory. The present conclusions are applicable to other photorefractive materials either photovoltaic or not. (C) 2003 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
