|Title:||ON THE ROLE OF THE SECONDARY ENERGY DEPOSITION IN POLYMERIC TRACK DETECTORS|
|Abstract:||The proportion of the secondary and primary contributions to track formation in solid state detectors has not yet been fully elucidated and it must surely not be the same in crystalline and in amorphous organic materials. The density of the energy deposited around the path of an incident charged particle is of importance for track formation, noticeably in organic polymers. A general algorithm for its calculation, as well as a discussion of the role of different contributions, is presented. It is hoped that the method is useful in determining convenient thresholds for a restricted energy loss description of the tracks in polymers.|
