|Title:||GROWTH AND TOXIN PRODUCTION OF CLOSTRIDIUM-BOTULINUM IN MEDIA AND CONDITIONS RECOMMENDED FOR ISOLATION OF CLOSTRIDIUM-PERFRINGENS|
|Abstract:||The growth and toxin production of Clostrdium botulinum types A (ATCC 25763), B (ATCC 7949) and E (ATCC 9564) in two culture media recomended for the isolation of Clostridium perfringens (tryptose-sulfite-cycloserine agar and sulfite-polymyxin-sulfadiazine agar) were examined. Temperatures of 35-45-degrees-C with three different anaerobic incubation atmospheres (mixture of 90% nitrogen and 10% carbon dioxide gases; gas hydrogen and Gaspak system) were also evaluated. The results showed that growth of C. botulinum and toxin production could occur in both culture media under the incubation temperature of 35-degrees-C, mainly with hydrogen and Gaspak anaerobic atmospheres. At 45-degrees-C incubation temperature, growth and toxin production were observed only in tryptose-sulfite-cycloserine agar, especially with type A Clostridium botulinum.|
