Title: THERMOCHEMISTRY OF PYRIDINE AND PICOLINES COMPLEXES OF P-CHLOROPHENYLDIHALOARSINES

Abstract: The complexes p-ClC6H4AsX2 . nL (L = pyridine, beta- or gamma-picoline; X = Cl, Br or I; n = 1, 1.5 or 2) were synthesized and characterized by melting point, elemental analysis, thermogravimetric studies and IR spectroscopy. From the enthalpies of dissolution (in 25 vol.% ethanolic ethanolamine) of the p-chlorophenyldihaloarsines-ligand complexes at 298.15 K, the standard enthalpies (DELTA(r)H(theta)) for the Lewis acid-base reactions were determined. From DELTA(r)H(theta) values and thermochemical parameters for the arsines and the ligands, standard enthalpies for the complexes were calculated: enthalpy of formation DELTA(f)H(theta); enthalpy of decomposition DELTA(D)H(theta); lattice enthalpy DELTA(M)H(theta); enthaLpy of the Lewis acid-base reaction in the gaseous phase DELTA(r)H(theta)(g). The mean standard enthalpies of arsenic-nitrogen bonds were estimated.
