Abstract: The fermenting baker's yeast reductions of alpha-haloacetophenones were carried out by three different procedures. While the alpha-fluoro-, alpha-chloro-, alpha-chloro- and alpha-bromoaceto-phenones gave the correspondent (-)-halohydrins, the reduction of alpha-iodoacetophenone gave acetophenone and (-)-1-phenylethanol.
