dc.description.abstractWe describe measurements of Brillouin intensity asymmetry induced by an applied temperature gradient in liquid samples characterized by a high derivative of the refractive index with respect to the temperature. We have used two liquids of distinct polar nature, benzene and isopropyl alcohol, and we have avoided finite-size and nonlinearity effects. The data are in good agreement with existing linear nonequilibrium statistical theories. The results suggest a general behavior of the effect in fluids, not related to their molecular structure.pt
