Title: A critical evaluation of a maximum loading point estimation method for voltage stability analysis

Abstract: A critical evaluation of a maximum loading point estimation method is carried out in this paper. The critical point is estimated from a set of operating points corresponding to different loading levels. In addition, new procedures aimed to improve the performance of the method are proposed. Different factors that affect the efficiency and precision of the method are analyzed, such as: distance from the base case operating point to the critical point. number of different load levels to be taken and the distance between them in parameter (load) space, discontinuities in the PV curves due to generators' reactive power limits, among others. Simulation results are used to show what conditions should be met to avoid errors in the estimation of the critical point. (C) 2003 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
