Title: Magnetoexciton electroabsorption in T-shaped semiconductor quantum wires

Abstract: This work presents a calculation of the optical absorption spectra of magnetoexcitons in T-shaped semiconductor quantum wires. The calculation is performed using the semiconductor Bloch equations in the real-space and time domains. The peak and the linewidth of the fundamental exciton transition are investigated as functions of the applied magnetic and electric fields. For increasing magnetic field the exciton has its binding energy enhanced. The absorption spectra in the presence of a static electric field along the wire axis show a line broadening, an energy shift, and oscillations characteristic of the Franz-Keldysh effect. An introductory study of the effects on the absorption spectra of phase space occupation by photocreated carriers was done and we found that optical gain occurs for carrier density above similar to1.5x10(6)/cm.
