Title: A Laboratory Simulation Of The Deflection Basin Of A Dormant Lacquered Rail
Abstract: The rail system is an important transport mode in the country, especially for the transport of ore loads. According to the National Association of Railway Transport (ANTF) estimations, 2015 will end with a total of 485 million tons transported, and therefore it is estimated that in 2016 there will be an increase of 5.1% and by the close of the year 510 million tons will have been transported. In Brazil there are many aged railways, which have never been modified or reconstructed using modern building techniques. Consequently, these railroads do not possess the sub-ballast layer, exposing many sections with poor drainage, resulting in the platform saturation and the crimping of the ballast. When this occurs, the ballast is crimped and the full contact between the dormant-ballast ceases to exist, resulting in the phenomenon called "GAP" between the two surfaces. The effects are shown at the moment of the loading until it reaches its support in the ballast, which compromises the capacity of the permanent way elements and affects the safety factor of the railroad. The specification of deformation parameters are usually made through the analysis of the deformation influence lines, usually called the deflection basin of the rails, which allows to modelling and prediction of the track behavior. This paper incorporates the use of one of the most modern technological resources currently available to evaluate the railway permanent way, the design program LISA, and by doing so, it is possible to simulate these loads and determine the stresses occurring on the track. This study, presented in this paper, is a set of knowledge that permits the modelling and prediction of the behavior of the permanent way; in the sections already in operation, the deflection measures in the field are an important part of the the structural evaluation of the pavement, anticipating the safety needs for maintenance and the performance of preventive work. © Civil-Comp Press, 2016.
