|Abstract:||The pharmaceutical industry is intrinsically related to the possible impacts that raises in society, when printing the possibility of treating diseases and improve the population's quality of life indicators. This industry, as we shall see in this paper, is intensive research and development in all its stages, from the new active ingredients search to sale to the final consumer, and involves very high capital contribution and specific technical knowledge, these elements show essential in the race for competitiveness both globally and nationally. Our goal is to contextualize the global pharmaceutical industry and later the national in a situation of economic transformation, the theoretical approach, therefore, must start from the dynamics of health economics. For Brazilian pharmaceutical companies a window of opportunity is open to many different technological paradigms and the standard of competition has been established, so it is up to the Brazilian State as well as the pharmaceutical industry adopt new strategies to ensure the result to economic and social development in the country.|
