Abstract: This article examines statistical knowledge and its inclusion in the curriculum at different teaching levels. Using Foucault's notion of governmentality, we suggest a political look at statistics as a domain of scientific knowledge and analyze its inclusion in the curriculum according to the National Guidelines for Elementary Education as a knowledge domain directed at governing the individual. We show how statistical knowledge and its inclusion in the curriculum have become technologies to guide conduct in the context of contemporary governmental rationality.
