|Abstract:||This paper presents research implemented in high school in order to enable statistics education. The project was set in a learning environment based on mathematical modeling, in which the student took an active role in constructing knowledge and researching topics of interest. This project aims to assess the possible contributions of mathematical modeling for statistics education in high school and was conducted with two public high school classes. Analysis of the classes' performance was based on materials prepared by students, in audio and video, and observation of the teacher-investigator responsible for project implementation. The results showed that the modeling environment can contribute to the statistics education since this experience proved to be conducive to the development of statistical reasoning.|
