Title: Extended Band Erbium Amplified Spontaneous Emission Source

Abstract: A simple broadband source suited for characterization of optical components for wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) is proposed. The extended band amplified spontaneous emission source is realized in a long erbium fiber. The input portion of the fiber absorbs the pump laser. The pump was a multi mode laser diode. Wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) optical communications systems rely on wavelength. Fiber length and pump power are obtained. The demonstrated source covers the optical communication transmission bands limited by the availability of optical fibers.
