Title: Evaluating Poultry House Ventilation Systems

Abstract: In order to compare which ventilation system lead the best environment for broiler production two system were tested using small scale models: 1) a prototype using centrifugal ventilation and the other 2) using axial ventilation. The test was run during four seasons from November 98 to November 99. The models were closed by plastic curtains and the amount of air inlet controlled by the curtain openings. Data on dry bulb, black globe and wet bulb temperatures were recorded every 15 min. Enthalpy and the Black Globe Temperature and Humidity Index were calculated and compared for both systems. The results showed that there was not statistically significant difference between both systems, however the values for the BGHI index are better for the prototype using axial ventilation, specially for completely closed building.
