|Title:||Fractionation Of An Asphaltene From A Brazilian Vacuum Residue|
|Abstract:||The solubility and chemical properties of asphaltenes and their sub-fractions from a vacuum residue were studied. Mixtures of heptane and toluene (heptol) in different proportions were used as solvents. The precipitated asphaltenes were totally soluble in toluene concentrations in Heptol of over 40% (vol/vol), but above 30% (vol/vol), the amount obtained was practically negligible. Asphaltenes from these vacuum residues and their Heptol sub-fractions showed a similar degree of unsaturation and heteroatom content. The sub-fractionation of asphaltenes using Heptol showed that the aromatic species with higher content of ring fusion aromatic carbons can concentrate in a specific sub-fraction. This is an abstract of a paper presented at the AIChE Spring National Meeting (New Orleans, LA 4/6-10/2008).|
