|Title:||The Use Of Air Valves As Protection Devices In Pressure Hydraulic Transients|
|Abstract:||The main objective of this paper is to discuss the use of air valves to protect pipes against hydraulic transients. In a first case study it will be shown that an air inlet valve, combined with a double acting air valve of low air discharge capacity, can replace a surge tank connected to an apex point of a pipe. In two additional case studies the use of these air valve and air inlet valve combinations is discussed in order to protect the system in cases such as a pump failure or a pipeline burst. © BHR Group 2008.|
