Abstract: In this work, a new parameter, named the Flow Performance Index (FPI), is proposed to guide the analysis of the performance of well systems for petroleum production. An outstanding characteristic of this parameter is that it uses a large amount of field data, which is measured periodically. The FPI allows the assessment of the technologies used in the wells. A study comparing the performance of vertical, directional and horizontal wells is presented here. Also presented in this paper are application examples of sand control technologies and of production monitoring.
