|Abstract:||Objective: Report results of vertical expandable prosthetic titanium ribs (VEPTR) surgery in the treatment qf neuromuscular scoliosis without spinal fusion. Methods: A total of 17 patients (mean age 8 years; 3 to 13 years) with neuromuscular scoliosis exceeding 40° of scoliosis measured using the Cobb method and presenting a Risser grade of 1 and 2 before VEPTR surgery. The degree of spinal curve was measured using the Coob method before and after surgery. Results: The postoperative mean correction rate in spinal curve degrees achieved by the patients treated with VEPTR measured with the Coob method was 40, 5° and the mean reduction of the pelvic obliquity was 60, 6° compared to the degree of preoperatory postural evaluation. Conclusion: Patients who underwent VEPTRsurgerydemonstrated significantly improved postural correction and health-related quality of life for the provisory treatment of congenital neuromuscular scoliosis.|
