|Abstract:||Objective: To evaluate the effect of different doses of retinol palmitate in the epithelial differentiation in rats. Methods: In the stage I, depletion phase, the animals received diet based on the American Institute of Nutrition - AIN93-G recommendations, without retinol palmitate. In the stage II, repletion phase, the animals received experimental diets AIN93G, which differed in the retinol palmitate concentration. Results: It was verified that consumed protein, body weight gain and PER didn't differ (p <0,05) among rats group receiving different levels of retinol palmitate in the diet. During the macroscopic observations, it was verified that in the group without retinol palmitate, the animals coat was livened up and it presented fall, while in the other experimental groups such alterations were not observed. There were not ocular alterations and keratinization of windpipe mucous membranes and mall intestine among experimental groups. However, it was observed during the microscopic analysis, that all experimental rats groups showed differentiation windpipe epithelial and intestinal epithelium inflammation. Conclusion: The experimental model used to induce vitamin deficiency in rats it didn't affect growth, development and epithelium differentiation in the repletion phase, just modified the animals coat received diet without retinol palmitate. New studies are necessary to increase depletion time for depleted vitamin A stores in the body and uptake vitamin A plasma level to confirmation deficiency. © Copyright Moreira Jr. Editora.|
