|Abstract:||Plastic packaging materials, due to their intrinsic good properties, can provide improvement in quality maintenance and distribution system of food, favoring the global food market. Nevertheless, the technological development and diversity of materials can also bring possibilities of consumer exposure to chemicals of toxicological concern. The diversity and dynamism of this productive chain has also generated an important increase in solid waste and serious consequences to the environment. This review article concentrates on food plastic packaging relating the most important materials and food contamination, as well as current legislation aspects. © 2006 Sociedade Brasileira de Toxicologia.|
